Darktable, the popular photography workflow and raw developer software, released new 5.6.2 version today.
The new version is a maintenance release that mainly includes bug fixes covering OpenCL support, crashes, and memory leaks.
For Intel GPUs with the most recent Compute Runtime 26.35.39758.10, the OpenCL GPU acceleration did not work for RAW/image processing.
It’s because the new Intel driver renamed the OpenCL platform name to “Intel(R) OpenCL Graphics (integrated)” / “Intel(R) OpenCL Graphics (discrete)“. And, the previous Darktable versions did not know the new names so disabled OpenCL on initialization.
Darktable 5.6.2 fixed the issue, so user can enable hardware accelerated processing with Intel GPU along with the most recent driver features.
Also for OpenCL GPU acceleration, the release fixed the issue that it could incorrectly detect whether Filmic RGB contained clipped pixels on some GPUs, especially AMD GPUs.
It as well fixed incorrect input gamma correction and incorrect Highlights and Laplacian processing issues when using OpenCL.
For Windows, Darktable does no longer create console window Windows 11 24H2 and later. On earlier Windows versions, it fixed that the console windows repeatedly appeared when darktable or a Lua script ran an external command.
It also fixed the app stealing focus and Alt+Tab failing to switch away when the mouse pointer was over a lighttable thumbnail.
Others are mostly stability and crash fixes, including crashes when importing a style whose module order is empty, when an AI model returns more data than darktable reserved for it, and, when checking a faulty custom ONNX Runtime library on Windows.
They also include memory leaks when expanding variables and pasting history stacks onto images in darkroom, which could accumulate with repeated image imports or exports.
